East Coast thrash met West Coast thrash when two of the pioneers of the 1980’s thrash metal scene, ANTHRAX and TESTAMENT, came together for a double bill at the Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas.
TESTAMENT was celebrating thirty-five years since they burst onto the thrash metal scene in the Bay Area. They were in support of their latest release “Brotherhood of the Snake”, although rumor has it that a new album is in the works. Both Chuck Billy and Eric Peterson remain as the only two members to appear on every TESTAMENT studio release. What I always find interesting about the band, is that the 1992 release “The Ritual” brought them the most commercial success, yet you will not find any of those songs on their set-list. The Bay Area thrashers stay true to their roots that have many saying that the BIG 4 should actually be the BIG 5.
ANTHRAX, along with TESTAMENT, was actually on a night off from supporting SLAYER on their farewell tour and and promoting their NEW LIVE DVD/CD release KINGS AMONG SCOTLAND decided to play a one-off headlining show in Las Vegas. The good news is this allowed for some songs like “Breathing Lightning” and “Medusa” to be added to the set-list that fans don’t get to hear live while the band is out in support of SLAYER. ANTHRAX may have risen from the New York thrash scene and TESTAMENT may have risen from the Bay Area thrash scene, but these two bands will always be part of the same genre that so many have came to love. It was a pleasure to see these two join forces once again at the Brooklyn Bowl!
