Sharing a bill with death metal legends like Morbid Angel and Suffocation could be enough to cause even the most reputable metal band to get lost in a hellish abyss. Luckily, that wasn’t the case for Boston-based Revocation, whose brutal blend of thrash and technical death shone brightly on a night dedicated to solely to darkness.
Revocation’s technical prowess was on full display as they blazed through an incendiary set featuring several tracks from their most recent album, Great is Our Sin and its predecessor, Deathless. Guitarists David Davison and Dan Gargiulo ripped out fluid, lyrical solos that clearly illustrated why they’re one of the most formidable guitar duos in metal.
For all the virtuosity housed within, Revocation’s set never felt pretentious or self-aggrandizing. Just ask the dudes in the pit if they were able to pick up on the atonal jazz influences of Davison’s guitar work. Odds are they would simply say it rocked!
